It’s always fun to decorate your properties in lights and holiday decor this time of year. The festive season for a lot of renters looks really different this year. Many of them might not be able to see the loved ones they usually go visit and are stuck at home.
Decorating your property is a great way to bring out some festive spirit in your complex but there are a few more ways that you can spread the holiday cheer with your residents and with your neighborhood.
Door Decorating Contest
Door decorating is a fun way to bring residents together and make the whole property feel more fun and festive! You can get creative with wreaths, wrapping paper, bows, battery powered lights and more. To make it more of a contest, post the doors on your properties social media pages like Facebook or on Instagram Stories and have residents vote on the best door. There can be categories for best wreath or best overall design. The winner or winners can receive prizes whether it’s candy, or a holiday decoration, or free parking for a month.
A giving tree is a great way to get the leasing team and residents working together to give back to the local community. To do this, you will need to collaborate with a local group that distributes gifts to kids who typically won’t receive many gifts this season. Set up a tree, large or small, in a common area like a club house or the lobby, and add tags onto the tree with a child’s wish list item. Encourage residents and staff to take a tag or tags and purchase the item. Be sure to have a box or bin to collect everyone’s gifts and that each gift is wrapped with the tag securely
on it so the local group or organization that is delivering the gifts can know who the gift will be going to.
Is it really the holidays without an ugly sweater contest? This is a fun way to get your residents together and have some festive fun. You could even go door to door with a hot chocolate cart and take photos of residents in their sweaters for your social media! This could also be combined with a virtual resident event like bingo or holiday themed trivia. Everyone can zoom in to the event with their best ugly sweater on.
