Giving Back: PERQ’s Gateway Committee in 20132 min read
One of our core values here at PERQ is to give back to our community in any way we can. We accomplish this through our Gateway committee, which helps connect employees looking to help with charities in need. 2013 was a huge year for the Gateway committee, donating over $12,500 to organizations in our local community. Some of the highlights include:
Back Pack Attack
We were able to donate a giant trunk full of back packs and school supplies in July to our local “Back Pack Attack,” an organization that provides school supplies for kids who otherwise couldn’t afford them.
We supplied 17 units of blood to the Indiana Blood Center via their mobile blood bank.
We gave 168 hours of our time to the Camptown Natural Wonders Day Camp this summer, playing games, canoeing, and fishing with kids who wouldn’t otherwise get that chance.
Holiday Gift Giving
I’m especially proud of this one. In December, we held a silent auction to raise money to buy gifts for children in need in Pike Township, which is where our office is located. Our employees auctioned off everything from sports memorabilia to “Life Lessons,” but the biggest moneymaker was our beard competition. We divided ourselves into two teams, each with the same goal: Raise more money than the other team or a representative on our team will have to grow a beard. Sure enough, the battle to avoid awkward amounts of facial hair for the holidays ensued and the real winners ended up being the kids.
All together, we raised over $5,000 to buy gifts for children in need. We were able to provide gifts for 31 children, including a $50 gift card to each child’s caretaker to help cover basic expenses.
As we move into 2014, we’re looking forward to giving back more to our community. We will continue to keep you updated on what we’re doing to give back and how you can help!
